We apologize for that to him, to the editorial office of "Tuttoscienze", and to the readers.

XXIst SPOLETOSCIENZA "ENERGY @ MINDS" - Ethics and Energy Governance |

Energy is one of those issues no state or people can do without, irrespective of the stability, growth or crisis stage they are in (such as the global one we are experiencing of late), as it touches upon all life aspects. Empirical findings show the urgency of environmental concerns, and sustainable development models have been debated at length in recent years. As a result, several countries (Italy among them) which are more or less dependant on foreign resources for their own energy requirements, have endorsed international protocols, while facing how it is difficult to match strategic economic needs and protection of the environment. At the same time, Italy is possibly going to re-open its nuclear chapter.
The XXIst edition of Spoletoscienza offers a rendez-vous on these international questions just after the G8 in L'Aquila has closed down.
Gianfranco Bangone, director of the scientific journal "Darwin", coordinates the following speakers: Roger Pielke Jr., from the University of Colorado at Boulder, editorialist for "Nature", expert in Science, Policy and Politics; John Tierney, science writer and "New York Times" correspondent; Richard Tol, from the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin, whose talk addresses social costs of mitigation policy for carbon dioxide emissions.
Later in the same morning, a round table will detail future outcomes and scenarios for energy. Participants will be: Alessandro Lanza, managing director of ENI Corporate University; Luigi Paganetto, chairman of ENEA; Chicco Testa, chairman of EVA, Energie Valsabbia (a company which develops and builds hydroelectric complexes) and managing director of Rothschild. |
